"For an artist to get big, the internet kind of has to treat u like a meme for a while."

You might know Jonatan Leandoer Håstad by his alias, Yung Lean. He's a Swedish rapper and producer who owes his notoriety to a very weird/very Internet mashup of influences. This earned him an international following and intrigued music media who wanted to know if the artist was trolling or not. Like his fellow Sad Boys — Yung Gud and Yung Sherman — he raps about Gatorade, hunna emails, and being Wario in Mario Kart (same) in a rare brand of Stockholm internet-lad steez.

You might also know our friend Alex Kazemi from Oyster #104 — he's the author and young person who wrote a book about the 90s and nostalgia and youth and MTV and pretty much everything that matters. Well, Alex has kindly conducted an interview with Yung Lean over Direct Messages on Instagram for us. Find out what the two have to say about irony, iPhone footage, Lana Del Rey and uggs in the transcript below. 'Scuse typos.
