Buy Kurt Cobain's Skis and Telephone On Craigslist

(Just kidding, it's a hoax)

Craigslist strikes again. A listing by a former roommate *cough* of Kurt Cobain's (which is still up for your perusal here) describes all the details an obsessive fan could ever want of a telephone, pair of skis and gameboy type thing supposedly owned by the Nirvana frontman. Let's all take a moment and try to imagine Cobain skiing, shall we?

Yeah. Nah. Anyway, the seller says he played bass for Seattle grunge band Gruntruck in the 90s and used to live with Kurt who left a box of stuff at his place after moving out. As the listing explains, "He owed us rent and said he would get the box when he came back and gave us money but he never came back, then when he was famous he never really talked to any of us again because Courtney never liked us but she's a dick so no hard felings [sic]". There is also a "pretty historical" twin phone on offer which "he used to talk on the phone to people in LA.". A great story, and some great syntax/punctuation, guy.

So historical. Much wow. The listing also promised a lot more stuff of Kurt's to be sold soon — but not before the whole thing was proven to be a hoax engineered by bored Sub Pop Records' receptionist Derek Erdman. The best part is, this all came about because he couldn't be bothered doing any work. We tip our hat to you, sir. That is some mighty original procrastinating.

If this whole ordeal has left a big Kurt Cobain shaped-hole in your heart, never fear. You can revisit the glory days by reading an excerpt from a new Cobain biography by journalist Charles R. Cross. It describes Courtney and Kurt's first meeting, and the rough and tumble (literally) of their subsequent romance. Find it here!
