Juergen Teller To Curate Exhibition Of Rare Robert Mapplethorpe Photos

Legendary photographer Juergen Teller will be curating an exhibition of even more legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in honour of what would have been Robert's 70th birthday. Juergen is getting free range of the entire archive of the Mapplethorpe Foundation to put together what will undoubtedly be a landmark show.

Showing at the Alison Jacques Gallery in London, the exhibition will include silver gelatin prints, Polaroids of Robert's pals (for e.g. Patti Smith), and a bunch of super rare works that have never been exhibited before. Juergen will use his artistic smarts to bring the work together in a new and exciting way, with Estate of Robert Mapplethorpe rep/gallery owner Alison Jacques saying that the noted fashion photographer was the "only choice" for curator.

"There are obvious parallels between these artists and I am excited to see how Juergen will bring his edge, energy and unique vision to a new reading of Robert's work," she said in a statement. You'll be able to see that vision on display at the Alison Jacques Gallery from 18 November, 2016 until 7 January 2017, so start planning that trip to London now.
