Medicinal Marijuana To Get The Green Light In Australia

Pretty dope.

Legislation permitting the cultivation of marijuana for medicinal/scientific purposes will be introduced to parliament today by the Turnbull government. If passed, doctors and patients could finally access a drug that helps to manage chronic pain and conditions like cancer and HIV/AIDS. And Australia would be finally catching up to the rest of the world!

Health Minister Sussan Ley is heaps pro the decision, and confident that it will receive the support of Labor and the Greens. "This is an important day for Australia and the many advocates who have fought long and hard to challenge the stigma around medicinal cannabis products," she said. "For Australia, this is the missing piece in a patient's journey."

However, Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm thinks that we can go one better and allow people to have a puff for fun, insisting it would save the cost of a medical regulatory framework and help raise tax revenue. Citing Colorado in the US as an example, he said"Nobody has died, the sky hasn't fallen, we are not facing rack and ruin, Sodom and Gomorrah." Interesting turn of phrase, but essentially yep.

What a victory for common sense!
