Pussy Riot Are Heading To America

Shit's gonna get real.

Lock up your daughters, concerned citizens of America, because feminist trouble makers and musicians Pussy Riot are coming for their ovaries. Two previously locked-up members of the Russian girl band slash activist group, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina have only been free for a month, but they're not wasting any time.

In a statement, the pair have announced that they'll be heading to New York City in early February for a concert, saying "A month ago, we were freed from Russian prison camps. We will never forget what it's like to be in prison after a political conviction," they said, adding "We have vowed to continue helping those who remain behind bars and we hope to see you all at the Amnesty International concert on February 5th in Brooklyn!"

Did you hear that, womyn? Get your best frock out, free your nipples and cut yourself a new brightly-coloured balaclava out of an old stocking, because this is going to be epic. While the press release from Amnesty International says the political pair will be 'participating' in the concert, we're hoping they'll do some stripped-down, two-person versions of such Pussy Riot classics as 'Kill The Sexist' and 'Mother of God, Drive Putin Away.' If you think we're taking the piss, we're not. Their presence in NYC is in itself a win for anti-Putin Russians, currently protesting Ukrainians and anyone for a punk orientation.

The Brooklyn-based concert which aims to raise awareness of prisoners of conscience — nonviolent people who are jailed for their beliefs, race, gender or sexual orientation — will also feature acts like also recently freed Lauryn Hill, The Flaming Lips, Teagan and Sara, Cold War Kids and more.
