The 'Heathers' TV Reboot Has Cast Its Hella Diverse Heathers

The upcoming Heathers TV anthology promises to be a v original take on the OG story. The show is swapping out the cult classic's girl gang for a group of diverse characters who more accurately represent this 2016 that we're living in.

A crew of mostly unknown actors have just been cast in these minority-championing roles, via The Hollywood Reporter, the new Heathers are:

"Heather McNamara (originally portrayed by Lisanne Falk) will be played by Jasmine Mathews; in the TV Land pilot, she is a black lesbian. Heather Duke (originally portrayed by Shannen Doherty) will be played by Brendan Scannell; the new version of the character is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath. Heather Chandler (originally portrayed by Kim Walker) will be played by Melanie Field; in the new incarnation, she is described as having a body like Martha Dumptruck."

Melanie's background is in musical theatre, Brendan is a stand-up comedian who's scored spots on Funny or Die and this will be Jasmine's first TV role. This squad joins James Scully in the role of J.D. and Grace Victoria Cox in the role of Veronica.
